What this page targets

Use this page to avoid studying the wrong section. Some apprenticeship screening processes may add local steps, but the Electrical Training Alliance's published aptitude test is organized around Algebra and Functions and Reading Comprehension. Verify your local program's current notice, then put your practice time into the sections it actually names.

What to practice instead

  1. Check the current application or test notice from your local apprenticeship program for any local additions.
  2. Practice Algebra and Functions until you can work accurately without a calculator.
  3. Practice Reading Comprehension by answering only from evidence stated or supported in the passage.

Sample 1

If 3x + 7 = 25, what is x?

  1. 10
  2. 4
  3. 6
  4. 8

Answer: C. Subtract 7 from both sides to get 3x = 18, then divide by 3.

Sample 2

A conduit run is 48 feet long. If supports are placed every 8 feet, how many equal intervals are there?

  1. 4
  2. 5
  3. 8
  4. 6

Answer: D. Forty-eight divided by eight gives six intervals.

Sample 3

A notice says: 'Cable pulls must be complete before panel energizing. Because the cable delivery moved to Thursday, energizing is now scheduled for Friday.' Why was energizing rescheduled?

  1. Cable pulls depend on the delayed delivery and must precede energizing
  2. Friday has a lower electrical rate
  3. The crew completed cable pulls early
  4. The panel inspection was canceled

Answer: A. The notice directly connects the delayed cable delivery to cable pulls, which must finish before energizing.

Sample 4

A notice states: 'Orientation begins at 8:00 a.m. The doors open at 7:30 a.m., and late arrivals cannot enter after orientation begins.' Maya arrives at 7:50 a.m. What does the notice indicate?

  1. The doors do not open until 8:30
  2. She may enter before orientation begins
  3. Late arrivals may enter at any time
  4. She must return the next day

Answer: B. Maya arrives after the doors open and before the 8:00 a.m. start, so the late-entry restriction does not bar her.
